Mr and Mrs. Stuart: A healthy environment for children means being able to talk, move, and play, but during standardized testing, precautions are taken to stop exactly that from happening. Enriching settings for the learning and growth of scholars of all ages is a necessary part of the school environment. However, CMAS testing is something that counters this. Standardized tests have been a crucial piece of national curriculums for decades. To make sure teachers, curriculums, and students are doing their jobs, it is absolutely imperative to have some form of test to measure knowledge and improvement, which is what post tests are for. Some testing has proved highly beneficial to everyone involved in my education, but CMAS has proved worthless. Even though you have been leaning towards making me take CMAS, I will strongly suggest that you opt me out, because CMAS causes a lot of stress, it’s time consuming, and it’s unnecessary. …show more content…

According to the ASCD, “The tests don’t actually measure the skills we want students to learn.” This confirms that taking CMAS won’t benefit student’ learning, so why should we take it? CMAS tests have been proven to include content never learned throughout the year. Furthermore, as stated by “The Conversation,” “Stress and pressure about forthcoming exams can result in what education researchers have termed ‘test anxiety’.” Our kids cry themselves to sleep because they’re afraid… Afraid of how they compare to everyone else. Afraid of failing... Afraid of forgetting... Afraid of disappointing their parents... Afraid of the test. These kids are affected sometimes to the point of serious depression and anxiety.
