It is a melancholy object to see the students of Marist School wearing differently colored and styled shoes to school every day. It makes the student body look like a bunch of hooligans. Marist should be a respectful institution and students look out of place and the different shoes distract students from their schoolwork. If students cannot focus on their schoolwork, then the overall respectability of Marist would be affected. When students are not punished for the act of wearing incorrect shoes, it encourages them to step over bounds in other aspects of the school. I see the effects that incorrect shoes have made on the Marist community and it does not seem to be changing for the better. Over my time at Marist School, uniform shoes have changed from black loafers for boys and saddle shoes for girls to all black tennis shoes with an option for the previous shoes. I find this change to be unnecessary because the tennis shoes look very odd with the rest of the uniform and tend to be worn sloppily. The sloppy nature of these new, black tennis shoes does not help to stop students from wearing non-uniform shoes. The problem is still just as rampant as before. I shall now therefore humbly propose my own thoughts on this issue. I believe that Marist students need a harsh punishment for the offense of wearing non-uniform shoes to school. I believe that the punishment most suitable for this offense is to make students, who have violated the Marist School dress code in regard to shoes, wear ten-inch stiletto high heels to school for a day. This punishment would apply for both boys and girls as it is equally painful for both parties. This punishment would only be enacted for one day for every day that a student was in violation of the dress
