The slaughters of these mammals are a serious issue and in certain parts of the world an ongoing fight with waiting results. Around the world thousands of dolphins are being slaughtered to be used as shark bait. The fisherman hunting them has devastated both the dolphin and shark populations. It is said that en estimated 100 million sharks dies every year and the killing of sharks can have ripple effects that throw entire ecosystems out of balance. They are used in a popular dish called shark fin soup, which is a delicacy in some parts of the world. According to an article by Ocean portal a shark fin has an estimated cost of 500 a pounds. That is the equivalent to $1100 a kilogram. It is said that Japan's hunt is one of the biggest slaughters in the world, yet many of Japan's own people don't know what is taking place and happening to the dolphins. It is cruel even to think that this happens every year and that there is even a season for the slaughter of these dolphins, which happened’s in October then continues through the end of February and finishes off through April with small wheals. According to WDC dolphin Drive hunts during the 2014-15 season, 800 dolphins were killed. An additional 80 dolphins were selected alive for captive. In Peru the slaughter of dolphins also take place because of the increasing demand for shark fins. The way these Dolphins or killed is by a method known as harpooning.
