Imagine you have a class where the teacher doesn’t take up homework, classwork or test grades. Instead everyone in your class has to do one big project and an oral presentation that is due at the end of the semester. That one grade for your project is your final grade at the end no matter what. There are no retakes if you don’t do well and you are depending on that grade to help you get into a good college. This one single grade could make you or break you. This technique of grading has no effect on a student's ability to learn. Giving students one long-term assignment that is due at the end of the semester for one grade is not an effective way to teach because it puts too much pressure on students, it doesn’t give them any way to pull their grade up if it is bad, and it doesn’t truly show the progress and intelligence of their pupils. First of all, kids are put under way too much pressure to excel in school. This new way of teaching would only make it worse for each child at school. If these kids are only given one chance that whole year, then there could be no way for them to pull up a bad grade. Many students care about the grades they get in high school, especially when they plan to go to a good college. It is also very important because eventually the parents will get to see those grades. This means many kids try their hardest and are willing to do anything to get their grade up as high as possible. It is a teacher’s duty to help their students succeed in any way they can. On that note, they should be giving their students as many assignments as possible so they are less likely to fail.
