Texting while operating a vehicle is a major hazard and issue in today’s modern society. The state of Florida has many advertisements all around stressing the safety concerns and consequences of texting and driving, but just how serious are they? Florida does not provide the proper precaution to protect the people from the dangers of texting and driving. Many drivers admit to being distracted by their phones while driving. While many other states crack down on the texting and driving laws Florida seems to be slacking. As Florida does have a law against texting and driving; however it only counts as a secondary offense so many people don't feel it’s that serious, many people think as if they are “getting away with it”. As a somewhat experienced driver, I have experienced others and myself being distracted by our technology and what I’ve learned is that it isn’t worth it to send that last text. Seeing all the accidents on the news and watching one for myself has been a huge eye-opener for me. It is really sad that people have to of had a bad event or a “scare” moment to learn their lesson or change the decision on texting and driving. Many of the situations about texting and driving had ended in a fatal accident. Texting takes your focus away from the road, and only to your device. You may get too intrigued in what you are looking at, and because the distraction is taking place, your focus from driving disappears. Drivers need to always remain cautious, and stay focused unless they are asking for trouble. Studies prove that teenagers who text and drive are more likely to get in a car accident to the lack of experience on the road. Teenagers who are diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, while texting is even more of a risk compared to a teen without. Staying focused and off of your phone while driving is obviously what you want to do in order to stay safe, and more importantly being a safe
