Best friends, sisters, brothers, parents, and even sons and daughters have all fallen victim to accidents caused by texting while driving. It is amazing how something as simple as a text message can drastically affect someone’s entire life. Texting while driving is an extremely dangerous act because it takes the driver’s attention away from the road. In attempt the minimize the accidents different states created different laws to ban texting and driving. Kansas is one of the 46 states that created a texting and driving law. The law was intended to show people just how destructive this act is. Does the Kansas Statute Annotated 8-15,111, in fact, create safer drivers, safer roads, and a sound community? The article Because Texting And Driving Kills! “In 2011, at least 23% of auto collisions involved cell phones… that’s 1.3 million crashes”. This law has not been as effective as planned; it has not created safer drivers, safer roads, and if the guilty party cannot be caught then there are no fines bringing money into the community. The only way to ensure that people will not break this law is to take away cell phones and that is nearly impossible to do. There is around 3 million people in Kansas alone; there is no way to take phones away from anyone. That goal would be pointless, unfair, and unsuccessful considering how dependent on technology our society has become. My generation should learn that their whole life could end with one text or they could end someone else’s life. Although we rely greatly on technology and we never go anywhere without our phones, we should be able to put them down long enough to get to our destination before we pick them back up. No text is worth the consequences that could come with it. It would be miraculous if future generation could learn to do this and keep the roads
