Most people are very careful not to go over the speed limit or pass a red light because they might get a ticket or get stopped by a police officer. However, did you know that in many states now texting while driving can get you into legal problems? According to Drew Desilver, a writer at Pew Research Center, “Texting while driving is a primary offense, meaning you can get pulled over and ticketed simply for that alone; in Florida, Iowa, Nebraska and Ohio, you can get ticketed for texting” (Desilver). If you didn’t know many states are starting to prohibit the use of cellphones. Texting while driving can cause you to get pulled over. However, this is easy to avoid if you put your phone on the side and concentrate on your driving. A simple reply to a friend isn’t worth a fine that in some states like Delaware it can range between $150 to $200. Many people believe the innovations of technology are going to allow drivers to use their phone while driving, and reduce the distraction this action has on them. According to Alyssa Carducci, a freelance writer, “Software company Zoom safer, provides smartphone technologies that prevent texting or emailing while driving and sends auto-reply messages on a driver's behalf in response to incoming texts or emails” (Carducci). Many people see this as a great tool because they think this is going to reduce the chance of crashing or breaking any policies. However, overall technology is technology and it can be a huge distraction by taking your focus of the road. You shouldn’t risk your life. If you believe that replying to someone else is very important you should stop your car at a gas station or any other place for a few minutes and reply. With this small action you are fulfilling the need to text back, but most importantly you are putting your safety before anything
