In ways this has affected every American citizen, weather Americans want to recognize it or not. Is it when a parent receives a phone call from the police saying that their son or daughter has been killed in a car crash? Texting and driving laws have not decreased distracted driving tendencies, therefore should be revised creating accessible ways for law officials to ticket distracted drivers.
The world is a place for up coming new technology, that all American want to dabble in, but it does have a time and place. Being in a car and driving down the road is not a place to be texting friends or typing on Facebook Messenger. Texting and driving now a day is more then just texting letters, but its reading new status updates, and much more. Yes, texting and driving has decreased in currently but entering the Internet, and updating social media sites has increased dramatically since 2009 to 2011 (Quisenberry). It’s a truth that almost all people try to avoid police on the streets, and try to get away with almost everything. Forty- four American states have a law against texting and driving but only thirty-eight states allow police to pull over the offender on that offense alone (Weaver). Also only fourteen states have made it against the law to hold your phone while driving (Weaver). That being said out for fifty-two states that means eight states have no laws against texting and driving therefore letting any American drive while distracted putting lives at risk. The states that do have laws against texting and driving the repercussions are minimal and it’s only after multiple times getting catch that your license is suspended
