Texting while driving can be deadly but banning it outright may not be the best solution. Many people believe that the only way to prevent dangerous use of cellphones in the car is by passing laws against it but these viewpoints don’t realize that phones are also very advantageous in the car if they aren’t used recklessly. There is also statistical evidence that banning cellphone use in certain areas hasn’t actually prevented cell phone use and the amount of accidents involving cell phones did not decrease.Even though some believe that cellphone use while driving should be illegal, it can be argued that laws against would be ineffective because cellphones can be helpful to many people in a car, temporarily banning it proved to be ineffective in the past, and many statistics people have seen about accidents involving phones are likely inaccurate. …show more content…

Some argue that all forms of cellphone use while driving are dangerous and need to be banned. Cell phones can be used to safely find directions, call family in case of an emergency, or receive important calls. There have been many articles that have shown this is true, including Bruce Siceloff’s article which argues that cellphones actually make driving safer. In his article, Siceloff states: “Janet Froescher, president of the National Safety Council, released new estimates that blame driver phone conversations for 1.4 million crashes in the U.S. each year, and texting for an additional 200,000, a combined 28 percent of accidents.” Furthermore, he talks about a woman who finds driving in bad areas much safer with a way to contact police.
