“It will never happen to me!” Says every teenager with a cellular device, “CRASH.” Until it really happens to you. This is not just a teenager issue, many member of the driving population do this on a regular basis. People don’t quite think of what could happen to someone else if they are texting while driving. People should put their phones away if not for their safety, but the safety of others. With the advance in technology every state should make it illegal to text and drive. If the United States is a safety first society, then making texting while driving illegal should be a no brainer, because of technology, now more than ever, drivers are more distracted and become a danger to themselves and others on the road. Teenagers are at a greater risk of being in an accident than adults because they are more distracted by things than adults are. 20% of wrecks that have happened over the past four years have been caused by a majority of teenagers who are texting while driving and the other majority are adults who are distracted by their cell phone. Not all people, especially teenagers, realize how much danger they put themselves in when they choose to text while behind the wheel. A “50-50 rule” is all texting drivers need, it means to pay attention partially to the road and partially to your device because people are capable of driving with their knees, better yet, one hand on the wheel and the other holding your phone. Some people find this argument valid, if it is than you would be able to do the following: read a book, watch netflix, brush your teeth, and you could even do your makeup while driving. This argument is completely bizarre because it doesn’t make sense because the 50/50 rule doesn’t make the roads
