Is replying to a text message worth totaling your car or taking your life, or even the lives of others? When people text and drive, are they focused more on their devices or the road? Is the value of a cell phone more important than the life of a human? Past studies have shown that about twenty- three percent of car accidents have been involved with the use of cellular devices (Texting and Driving, Here Are the Facts). Although many states do not allow the use of cellular devices while driving, I believe every state should prohibit the use of cell phones while operating a motor vehicle.

After surveying fifty people in my residential dorm, the results came out to thirty-nine people saying texting while driving should be banned and eleven people said it didn’t matter to them (Clark). Distracted driving is very dangerous and more people need to become aware of it. Carlee Bollig has to face charges because she made a bad choice by texting while driving and harmed innocent people. Everyone needs to take that story and put it into perspective as if it were them behind the wheel.
