Picture this there is a person driving down the road and they get a text message, but they don’t ignore it. They pick it up and start to read it and respond. Now image there is another car on the road minding their business then BAM!!! The texting driver is being rushed to the hospital while the other driving is laying on the road being declared dead. The texting driver not only has to face charges, but also has to live with the fact they just killed someone because they couldn’t put the phone down. With as many people that try to multitask by texting and driving, people should always focus on driving or suffer dire consequences.

Texting and driving killed Mrs. Smith’s mother. “A driver using a cellphone plowed through a red light and slammed into Msr. Smith’s mother’s mini-SUV” (Hanes 30). The accident happened because the driver was not paying attention to their surrounding. If they were not texting and driving, then this accident could have been avoided. Using phone’s to text the workplace is not always the best thing. “The truck driver, who was texting with his company at the time of the crash, never applied his brakes and hit the cars at 65 mph” (Mayerowitz and Stark 45). If the truck drivers work did not require its workers to text them about their job, then the accident probably would have never happened. Seven seconds makes a difference between if a person dies or lives.“Traffic experts say it takes only about seven seconds to send a texted when you’re behind the wheel. And that may have been all it took to kill Kelly Phillips” (Nelson 48). Think about it Kelly Phillips was just driving down the road, but most likely because of those seven seconds that someone couldn’t put their phone down she is died.
