It only takes three seconds for your life to change. Those three seconds are the cause of nine people dying every day because they were texting and driving. As technology progresses on, so do people. Cell phones have become a daily tool in our lives. Listening to this speech will help you make better decisions while you are driving. Today I am going to be informing you about the dangers of driving and texting. I chose this topic because texting and driving is becoming an issue. As more people text and drive, the number of accidents also increase. It is necessary to help reduce this problem. I have done research on this topic by looking through various websites and videos. Although there is no way to stop everyone from texting and driving, the government and some organizations are doing their best to enforce laws on texting and driving using social media and the internet. 40 states have passed laws that ban the use of handheld electronics while driving, and 32 states have passed laws that ban young drivers from using a phone in a vehicle (“Distracted Driving”). The government is also helping by trying to make every state have a text-messaging ban. The Department of Transportation and Safety are working together to stop texting and driving because it is illegal and dangerous. (“10 Pragmatic Reasons…”). Iowa made its messaging ban on July 1st 2017. Parents who text and drive have a negative influence on their children. Teens who see their parents’ text and drive think that it is safe for them. Parents are very busy because they have a lot of things going on in their life, and so they call and text while driving. Everyone can play a part in trying to stop distracted driving. Teens can spread the message on why texting and driving is bad through the use of social media and the internet. Parents can teach their children how to drive safe. Teacher and Educators can help by teaching new drivers about the dangers of texting and driving (“Distracted Driving”).
