Customarily, within the United States at a mere sixteen years old, many young adults are obtaining their driver’s licenses. In truth, it is a really good thing for America’s youth as it not only promotes independence among the future generations, but it also opens doors to new responsibilities. However,as Spider Man once said, with great power comes great responsibility. This still holds true as with the great power of driving, comes a great deal of responsibility for the lives of everyone on the road. I pledge to not text and drive because not only do I put my life at risk, but also the lives of those who are on or around the road as well.
Texting while driving is not a smart decision. It is putting your life on the line, and other peoples. Being distracted on the road is very dangerous to everyone involved. Vehicle crashes on average happen within 3 seconds of being distracted by your cell phone. While texting and driving, you are 23 more times likely to crash than drivers who are not.
Texting while driving should be considered a crime. The idea that you value your time with your phone over watching the road is horrible. Texting while driving is a horrible crime that should be punished. It only take a few second of looking away from your phone to lead to someone’s death.

With all the distractions we have inside and outside the car these days, adding a phone into the equation only makes it worse. With all the different drivers that are on the road today, especially teenagers, texting while driving is a recipe for disaster. Having a driver's license is a privilege, not a right, with that right brings a mass amount of responsibilities, that over time turn into good driving habits. However, with all those good habits, come the bad habits, we all have them: road rage, tailgating, not using turn signals, driving too fast or slow.
People throughout the world should lessen the amount they text, otherwise problems that we didn’t even know of are going to emerge. We, as a society, are governed in two places; reality and virtuality. Stuck on our phones, tablets, and watches for hours on end, it slowly becomes our life, creating a sense of reality. To be unfollowed breaks a teenage girl’s heart, and having too little likes on his picture makes the boy a little less confident in himself. Social Media connects us with friends and family, but also strangers. It’s fun to text every now and then, but on a constant basis becomes a distraction costing lives.
