Humans are bad at driving compared to self driving cars. Distractions are a big reason why. Distractions can be called the reason for about a fourth of car accidents. People think that they are a good driver and may look down to check a text, but when they look back up they are in the middle of an intersection with 10 people honking at them. For a lot of people the urge to pull out their phone and respond to a text or check their social media is too high. Drunk driving is one of the leading causes of car accidents in USA. learning that texting could potentially be more dangerous is pretty scary.
