Persuasive Essay: Pitbulls Should Be Banned

Pitbulls are being wronged every day because of the inaccurate perception that they are aggressive and violent. However, most pit bulls are not naturally born that way, it is because of the environment they live in and who they are owned by. Training pit bulls for illegal fighting, bull-baiting, and the teaching of aggression, are all inciting behaviors of humans. These examples lead to the out lash of their dangerous actions, leading to many deaths of humans and animals. The neglect and abuse they receive do not make their stereotype of a “killer dog” any better than it already is. The government should not ban pit bulls. Instead, bans should be put on the irresponsible humans who ruin the breed. On the other hand, adversaries argue that …show more content…

Just like corgis or pugs, pit bulls are dogs too. Why are pit bulls the only breed targeted? There are plenty of other breeds of dogs that can also be violent. According to an expert in the article Troublemakers, “Of course, not all pit bulls are dangerous. Most don't bite anyone. Meanwhile, Dobermans and Great Danes and German shepherds and Rottweilers are frequent biters as well, and the dog that recently mauled a Frenchwoman so badly that she was given the world's first face transplant was, of all things, a Labrador retriever.” Pitbulls are like humans in that they have their boundaries, and if someone invades them, they can get angry. As mentioned in the article TroubleMakers, “ The pit-bull appearance is a proxy for the pit-bull temperament—for some trait that these dogs share. A mean pit bull is a dog that has been turned mean, by selective breeding, by being cross-bred with a bigger, human-aggressive breed like German shepherds or Rottweilers, or by being conditioned in such a way that it begins to express hostility to human beings.” To become plausible towards pit bulls, people need to realize, in reality, they are one of the best-tempered dogs. After taking a temperament test, pit bulls scored more than 85%. Included in the test, three different pit bull breeds scored an average of 87.9%, making them not as vicious as people see them. From this, the evidence above shows, through high temperament scores, the only factor that makes pit bulls so aggressive are humans. As expressed by Procon.org, “When their communities establish a ban, these people just seek out new, unregulated breeds.” If this ban comes into effect, the cruel pitbull owners and trainers will become desperate and seek out another dog breed and train it to be aggressive. If society wants to eliminate dog attacks, they will need to make a ban on all breeds, because they all can become
