Nearly eight million students currently participate in high school athletic in the United States. More than 480,000 compete as NCAA athletes. (www.ncaa.org). Sports help students to develop many skill and characteristic that carry throughout their life. The two articles that I have referred to my essay are "The Case Against High School Sports", by Amanda Ripley and "Psychological and Social Benefits of Playing True Sport", by The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).

When Matthew Walther published his article “Sorry Nerds: Video Games Are Not a Sport” he tries to explain in a variety of different ways how video games aren’t a true sport; yet proceeds to use the reference that watching CNN with your grandpa could be a sport biased on his definition of a sport. With the way the author is trying to describe how he doesn’t think video games are a sport to his audience he leaves out some key things. Some of the things that Matthew Walter did a good job in his article was how he gave a lot of examples
Football should be a Olympic sport because it is the top watched sport in the USA, and more and more people watch it every day and i would bet you that you have watched the nfl hardest hits. Football is a great sport if you have never played it i would tell you to it if sun and you have to use your brain. And I mean who doesn’t want to watch men hit each other as hard as they can. Everywhere you look you see football every time you watch the sports channel the top headline is football or there is always something about football. Football has been around for a long time, it is one of the oldest sports to date so it has history one of the reasons why it should be an olympic sport.
The article “Should Video Games Be Considered a Sport?” from The New York Times issued October 4, 2013, by Michael Gonchar is a popular topic debated by numerous people. There has been an abundance of controversy whether video games should be considered a sport. These disputes cause a number of arguments among professional gamers, fans, and media. Just because these players are playing video games extensive hours throughout days and nights, and not doing any physical athletics doesn’t make it not considered a sport.
Is Golf a Sport? Many people would consider golf to be a game rather than a sport. Golfers do not have to be great athletes or in terrific physical condition. Golf is accessible to most people and it does not require a team (most times), so it seems to be a game. Golf does require skill, practice, and athleticism, the same as other sports.
Also according to “Talon Markd.com” any one can become good at a video game. Sports requires you to be in a good physical shape to top your opponent, It's not just the video games itself, i think shouldn't be the sport it's also the effects it can lead to, to prevent it from being a sport. The pro gamers would have to practice a lot and that can lead to many brain cells dying, and worse people can end up dieing because playing too long. Playing too long is not even the only way to die from a video game there have been many other ways people have lost their lives from a video game. There have been many reports of death from a videogame like in 2007, a Chinese man played a game for three days straight at an Internet cafe.
Concussions, head injuries, and hard hits. When we hear these words we usually refer to football and the amount of injuries it can cause. Football is a loved and popular sport played all around America, but what people don’t see about this is that how many teens, kids, or even adults get injured each year. I feel that all of these scenarios can lead up to many deaths,and dysfunctions in the body which, causes me to feel that recreational sports should not be allowed because of all the possible damage that can be caused to people.

I am of the belief that they are as real of a sport as football and hockey and that professional gamers should for all intents and purposes be considered athletes. Some people say that competitive sports are not good because of cost, attitude and injury, Others say it prevents obesity, heart diseases, makes you healthier and happier. So is it good or bad.
Over the years there has been a big controversy over whether video games are relatively good or extremely bad for children. Video games are super beneficial to a kid’s learning process and have been proven to increase social skills, productivity, and stress. The fear that video games are harmful to a child, is proven through countless experiments that they are actually great for their growth and brain capacity. Video games can increase the social skills in a child, Xbox and PlayStation provide great opportunities for cooperation and competition. Two different studies, one by Katherine Keyes and the other by Vinay Devnath, both have proved that the use of video games can increase the social skills that many children can’t grasp, “Video game playing is often a collaborative leisure time activity for school-aged children, and these results indicate that children who frequently play video games may be socially cohesive with peers and integrated into the school”( Keyes, PhD).

Approximately 90% of children in the United States play video games, and more than 90% of those games involve mature content that often includes violence (Park, 2014). There are those that believe video games are detrimental to society, however playing video games including those with mature content can actually be beneficial to both individuals and society by increasing knowledge expanding the ability to react positively at real life situations and improving cognitive thinking skills. Children that play video games not only have the potential to increase their ability to learn right from wrong, and to improve their cognitive thinking skills the game can also increase a child’s knowledge.
