Is it time to get rid of the American tradition of school sports? In the article, “Yes, It’s Time to Scale Back” the author Amanda Ripley expresses how sports are harmful to the students and school funds. However, in the article, “No Sports Are More Important than Ever” by Tim O’ Shei discusses how school sports benefit students. The article, “10 Reasons Why High School Sports Benefit Students” by Grace Chen also backs up why school sports are important. School sports are a reason for failing grades; on the other hand, there are many positive benefits to having them in schools.
Some people against that playing sports in school is harmful for students. However, to me, playing high school sports is beneficial for students because it teaches perseverance, prevents overweight's, and build confidence characters. The first advantage of playing high school is teaches students perseverance. In many sports, the winners are not always about the strongest or fastest.
While some believe that athletes should have their own choice at making a decision to go pro straight out of high school, they should not do so because they will not be able to manage their million dollar contracts respectively. Speaking of contracts, the NBA should eliminate guaranteed contracts for rookies drafted in the first round of the NBA draft. They should do this because a careless high school kid, could just go into the draft not knowing, or caring on how much they are going to make, with the lack of experience on handling millions of dollars. This is very unrepsonsibible for a teenager, and not only for the high school athlete, but also for the basketball association as well. This is because of there noncommitment to have these players

On the other hand, the promotion of the tobacco companies getting incredibly flexible to younger targets to hold the users longer period to use their tobaccos. In 1990’s Camel was sold to and also targeted to children, which is hiding the unethical problem behind familiar promotions through various medium. After seven years, the attractive appearance of cig box to children criticized by people, so it disappeared due to changed expectation of societies. However, cigarette companies did not stop to selling them to young people because one of the strategies of business to enhance their income was targeting children.
High School Sports Should be Funded Every year 300,000 students are participating in sports (Gould 1). The School District has been funding the athletics program, which has been benefiting many of the students’ lives for several years. The discontinuation of high school sports will cause many students to loose the health, social and educational benefits provided by participating in athletics. The School District should continue to fund sports because they benefit students.
Lebrons James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett. Other than being all time greats these three players have one thing in common: they went straight from high school to the NBA. Over 40 players have skipped college and went straight to the NBA draft (Keusch). However, in 2005, then commissioner of the NBA, David Stern, passed a rule that required all athletes to be at least one year removed from High School before entering the NBA draft (Bonesteel). Forcing players to attend one year of college before getting their big pay day on draft night has been very controversial ever since the rule was passed.
Imagine this; kids being competitive, cheering for the school, and more of a bond, I think middle school sports should be allowed in Adams 12. Through the years I played sports sometimes I had a good experience, but other times I didn’t. I really enjoy your schools and all of the Adams 12 schools are running very smoothly and I don't feel unsafe. I would like if you bring back school sports. The reason for that is so kids can be more competitive, so more kids would be more active.
Intercollegiate Sports is immensely popular in the United States. According to a survey conducted by Harris Interactive, around 47 percent of the U.S. Americans follow college sports. Almost 31 million have attended a college sports event in 2016. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) projects earnings of more than 857 million dollars in its 2018 fiscal year from its television and licensing rights agreements. Over the term of the contract the multimedia and marketing rights payments will reach a total of 10.8 billion U.S. dollars between 2017 and 2022.
Bigger, stronger and heavier= UNFAIR Should kids soccer teams win games just because their big, tall and strong. This way some teams just push other teams around. UNFAIR! Soccer is a sport that is won with a combination of skill, athleticism and maybe just maybe some luck and size.
There currently is a big debate about whether football should still be allowed after the recent medical studies on professional football players brains and the effects they have from being hit repeatedly over the years. Recently, a disease called CTE has been found in many past players and it is known that this disease is directly connected to football. That has led many people to believe that football should be discontinued. However others believe that is too extreme of a reaction.
Do you want your kids to experience a fun time while gaining well needed skills? Kids and competitive sports is something that people argue about all the time. Should kids play competitive sports? Injuries, stress, expenses are reasons that some might argue they should not. I think competitive sports can highly benefit children who play them and can lead to being more positive than negative in the child's future.

They should be because school athletics is too expensive, a minority of students play them, and sports take away from family time. First of all, while you play a sport you could hurt your body, or get a concussion. Secondly sports can become a distraction to the students education. And lastly sports can cause ¨cliques¨. Because of these reasons and more, sports should not be mandatory in schools. First off, when you play a sport you could get hurt or get a concussion. ¨Sports should not be a part of a teenagers’ school career; their brains are still developing and there is a higher risk for permanent damage¨ (McGough.)

If you really think of it of course; your child is missing out on a lot of childhood experiences. Sitting on the couch, eating chips, is one of the factors to the fact that over one third of the world’s population is obese. Nearly all Americans love sports but is it really worth it. In this generation, competitive sports has become more dangerous than ever sports experts are starting to worry that competitive sports has a more negative effect than a positive effect on children. Most competitive sports can lead to severe injuries, pressure which can lead the youth using illegal drugs, and all the money parents spend on their kids to play sports is ridiculous, and worst of all most children are starting to burn out of sports emotionally and physically. Competitive sports do not have a positive effect on all children because of the cost, pressure/injury, and enjoyment. Most people can all agree that competitive sports are awesome, most people root for their favorite teams, they bet on it, and best of all it has amazing health benefits.
