Sports can be a great pastime or extracurricular in schools. It's fun for some people and can be exceedingly profitable. That being said, should colleges support their teams? There are multiple aspects that help answer this question. Funds, knowledge, and socialness being some of them, and the ones that will be gone over in this essay. It will show why sports are important in colleges and schools, while also needing to be monitored more. Funds are the first factor playing into all of this. Sports create revenue for both the school and the student, if the student or team plays efficiently enough. This causes athletics to be vastly desirable for a large number of people. Sports coaches at schools can get paid more than other positions at the school than other administrators and teachers. This can be seen in multiple different ways. Coaches being paid more than other staff can rub people the wrong way. While others may think that the coaches deserve the extra money brought in by the sport that they teach. Money is a great deal since that's how people afford to live their lives. So If the coaches gain extra money, as long as no one else is losing money because of that, there is no harm done. …show more content…

As plenty know, students that play sports must keep their grades up in order to stay in the sport. However for some students this isn’t the case. If they manage to play skillfully enough then fake grades can be put in place to keep that student on the team. So there is no worry about grades. This gives the student a safety net that can be abused and they can flunk classes without it being known. While other students keep their grades up so they don’t drop out of the sport. Sometimes even going above and beyond. However that doesn't excuse the cheats that are being used to keep the other kids in the sport that would otherwise be failing. Grades and knowledge should come first and foremost in a school
