When will I eat next? Where will I sleep next? Who can I trust? These are the questions homeless people ask themselves regularly. Living on the streets is very frightening to most people, but when you are living on the streets, you don’t have time to be scared because you keep thinking about how you are going to survive. Homelessness is defined as, “An individual or family who lacks a regular nighttime residence, such as those living in emergency shelters or places not meant for living.” Homelessness happens for various reasons, the main ones being poverty, lack of jobs, or being born into it. According to Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations “building shelters will help because it will give people a sense of security. Instead of sleeping on the streets where they could get hurt, they get to sleep in a safe environment where they have a bed.” This shows the importance of being able to have shelters. You might ask, well don’t we already have shelters? Well according to CBC news “ they have often called the city's central intake office only to be told no beds are available.” This shows that we need to create more shelters because thousands of people are sleeping in the cold harsh winters of Canada. Sleeping in such horrible conditions may lead to frostbite or worse. Bill Lavender, who has raised over 27 million dollars, has said “ There are three types of shelters: hasty, semi-permanent, and permanent. Shelters are the most important thing needed to survive.” permanent shelters would be more efficient when it comes to housing the homeless. Homeless Hub made a study of homeless adults which revealed that every three in four homeless people have been arrested for doing nothing. Of those, most were sent to prison for six months. This shows that homeless people are getting arrested or even hurt for nothing. This is why we need to ask the government for their help! They would have a bigger impact on the situation than we would. One way to contact them would be through writing letters. In the letter, we should write ways to help them. For example how we need shelters, how we need more organizations for the homeless., how they shouldn't be arrested for nothing, how helping homeless people would help the city, it could reduce crimes and make the city a safer place to live. If you feel that asking for these things is not something that you want to do you could always ask to give the homeless jobs. We should be asking politicians to help homeless people get started because sometimes all people need is just a little help to get started. It doesn't need to be a big fancy job either it could be a cashier or jobs like that. It’s just to help them get started. This evidence shows that writing a letter to a politician will help in many ways, it will help get more recognition and have a bigger impact on getting homeless people a job and the support they
