Persuasive Organ Donation Essay

Everyday in the U.S. alone around 22 people die waiting for an organ they critically needed. Moreover, organ donation is the process of surgically removing an organ or tissue from one person and placing it into another person to longer preserve their life. Furthermore, this is something I am passionate about. My passion for this is related to me wanting to become a surgeon in the future. Raise your hand if you plan on donating your organs after you die. If you could save someone’s life by giving them something you no longer needed, would you? This question is organ donation after death in a nutshell. I see donating your organs as an opportunity to give someone another shot at life. Why should I be an organ donor? I’ll give you a few reasons,

Reason two: Over 120,000 people in the United States are waiting for a lifesaving transplant right now, and every ten minutes someone is added to the list, amounting to approximately 144 new people in crucial need of an organ transplant every day. Reason three: Why keep something you don’t need from someone who needs it desperately? Allowing your organs to be given to another person after you’re gone is providing hope for another family and allowing another person a second chance at living. Foremost, the kidneys are the most needed organs right now. As you can see, about eighty two percent of people in severe need of transplants are waiting for kidneys. 82 percent of over 120,000 is 100,000. The reason kidney’s are in such high demand is because they are affected by many diseases and when one fails the other usually does too. All things considered, the waiting list has been steadily rising since 1993 and the amount of donors is nowhere near what it needs to be.
