Ted Talk on Dirty Jobs Since the dawn of the human era, humans have taken a particular pleasure in other people’s adversities. Dirty Jobs is a generally funny show; when you watch a 20-minute Ted Talk on Mike Rowe’s take of the show, it can be very humorous as well. Initially while watching, I recognized how serious his tone was. Mike was literally summarizing one of his jobs in the western city of Craig. However, he is simultaneously teaching the viewer about anagnorisis and peripeteia through his humor, as described below.
Josh Wagner presented third, and something I found very insightful was his statement,
The information on the pH of the ocean was really interesting. She explains well how one tenth of a difference in pH makes a huge difference in the ocean life (p 114). I think it makes the topic approachable for the
I thought what he had to say was excellent in having an answer for the origins of the universe. I would have loved to seen more practical knowledge on how someone can share the love of Christ to the Advancement community. The Advancement keeping the faith in an evolutionary age by L. Russ Bush was an excellent read and an a additional reference tool for anyone library to help fight the culture
In my opinion, the supplemental videos provided in these chapters were very interesting. First, there is the Erie Canal Documentary. I enjoyed learning about the construction of the Erie Canal and its influence back then. What surprised me the most was the fact that the canal engineers were not actually trained as engineers, but they still were up to the task of designing and building the canal, very impressive of them!
“So I started this talk talking about the tush, so I’ll end with the bottom line, which is, walk and talk” (2:59). This quote is pulled directly from the speech by Nilofer Merchant, she is qualified to speak on this topic because she has personal experiences with what she is talking about, she is walking the talk. She has had a family member die from not getting enough exercise in his day to day life, and now she makes it a point to have people in her meetings get up and walk. Merchant gave the speech, “Got Meeting? Take a Walk,” on TED Talk on April 29th, 2013.
Rhetorical Analysis: Ruby Wax, “What’s so funny about mental illness?” According to TED.com, 1984 was the year TED was born out of the “observation of a powerful convergence among 3 fields: technology, entertainment, and design” by Richard Saul Wurman. TED has now come a long way under the entrepreneurship of Chris Anderson. He has since then changed TED from being ‘invited-only’ to being open to the public and from being national to international with the first six TED talks published in June of 2007 reaching a million views in September of the same year. TED will soon, proudly; celebrate its 31st anniversary, anticipating many more years of successful talks.
The humor of the guest speaker really made me feel comfortable. Adam frankness with
[Imagine a low booming voice from an announcer] “Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the Billy Jacking exhibition, presented by Gallery 2, created and brought to you by artist, Jordan Bennett from the Mi’kmaq Nation, Wabinki Confederacy in Newfoundland, Canada. This exhibition is situated within the traditional un-ceded territory of the Sinixt Peoples. For the featured bout, we are going to witness a most anticipated match in history, the fighters are in the ring and they are ready, we have Billy Jack in the left, and his opponent, Stephen Harper in the right… for people in attendance, are you ready?!... The story I chose to discuss is the Navajo Creation Myth. Expectantly I will be able to explain the effectiveness of this story in preserving the culture and history of the Navajo people, as well as their teachings about relationships between people and nature. As a modern reader of the story I felt I was transported into a different time and possibly a different reality of this planet. As growing up we are introduced to various creation stories based on religion, beliefs and the culture we were born into and raised in. Therefore, it was highly captivating for me to realize and discover similarities with stories I was told as a child about the creation.
SOLVING PROBLEMS As Bradbury describes the citizens “like gray animals peering from electric caves,” (139) He makes an allusion to Plato 's Allegory of the Cave, found in Book VII of "The Republic" where Plato states “Life is like being chained up in a cave forced to watch shadows flitting across a stone wall.” The purpose of Bradbury’s allusion is to make the readers take notice of the citizen’s live styles- absorbed within their tv walls in ignorance of the ongoings and status of the world they live in. Moreover, Bradbury warns readers not to get sidetracked or so obsessed with entertainment to become oblivious to the ongoings of the world around them, and the problems within their society. “ I 'm afraid of children my own age.
Searching for an artwork that speaks to you can be a difficult task for some people. Some people being myself, that is. So when I finally came across Ra Paulette and his cave art or cave carvings, I was/am very much intrigued. This man has spent the better part of his last 25 years excavating caves in New Mexico. And wow, are they something.
How Simon Sinek Persuade Audiences that the Secret to Success is a Reason Why In the TED talk, How Great Leaders Inspire Action, the presenter, Simon Sinek, a “leadership expert,” claims that all great leaders and innovators have one thing in common, they all have a reason why they do what they do. He convinces the audience that his claim is correct through a relatively balanced use of the three Aristotelian appeals: pathos, logos, and ethos. He gives specific facts and examples, to show his audience how his claim has worked for history’s greatest individuals and organizations. Finally, he uses rhetorical devices such as amplification and parallelism to strengthen his argument.
I also like how the museum show different part of their culture, from the art to their everyday way of life. This was good to see because most museums usually display bits and pieces of artifacts, and it is up to the curator to decide on what they want to display and ultimately affecting or impacting public perceptions of these tribes. So to see the museum had items from mostly all walks of life for the Native American show that they wanted to show the full culture. I was also very surprised to see the similarity in the Native American culture compare to the African culture when it came to art, clothing, hunting, cooking, and domestic
My experience with students as a Greek language teacher, along with the feeling of accomplishment that comes with it, are the reasons why I decided to apply and pursue a master’s degree in education and become a teacher. After six years of teaching, I realized that interacting and teaching young individuals was something that I enjoy and fulfills me as a person. When I am in a classroom teaching my first priority is to create a positive classroom environment where my students can feel safe, welcomed and comfortable. I believe that a positive classroom environment can stimulate learning, and can eventually impact students to performance positively. When a student feels, happy and enjoys attending class he or she will be more motivated
