The mental aspect of football is just as important as the physical play. Decision-making and awareness are traits ever player must have. Having the mental advantage is a bigger advantage than physical traits. Peyton Manning doesn’t have the strongest or the most accurate arm in football, but what he does have is a mental edge over his opponents. His knowledge of the game and of the defenses of the NFL has made him the brightest and arguably one of the best QB’s of all time. His decision-making has what helped him become the best. Coaches love players who have knowledge of the game and their position. Players who lack the mental aspect of the game don’t last long in the NFL or even the CFL. The challenge is there are not enough players in football who have the ability to make decisions quickly and be effective with them. You have to be a student of the game.

To develop the mental decision-making skills a player has to spend time watching film and studying the game. Learning plays and learning what your role in each play is vital to a team’s success.
