Community policing is the assigning law enforcement officers to specific zones of a neighborhood so that they become acquainted with the local populaces. Per our text book, “Community policing got its start in the late 1970s as a way to build a partnership between the police and the public…” (Regoli 2011). This philosophy was rooted in the idea that if law enforcement officers were in constant communication with community members a strong relationship would ensue. The presents of police officers in a community would allow the officers the ability to become familiar with the individuals they are charged with protecting.
