Philosophy Statement

I believe that every child is unique and can achieve their dreams. The visual arts are an excellent means in the understanding of human experiences and cultural values in our society and should be integrated into the everyday education curriculum used in our school systems. The community in which a student works, greatly influences the way children think. The whole education process is based on life experience. In education, it is important to bring the student and the community together to complete the process. Teachers and students have an obligation to promote equality, justice and respect for others.
If we want kids to become globally competitive and lifelong learners, we need teachers who create learning environments which encourage this to happen. For the first quarter of a century of our lives, our main “job” is learning. The bulk of our time is spent in classrooms acquiring new knowledge. And then, once we graduate, we feel like the education phase of our lives is done and now it’s time to go out into the world. In my belief, this statement is fundamentally why the education of children is so vital today to the improvement of our society. The future of our world depends directly on the people who live here. I believe that the role of education must be rooted in fostering and nurturing students who will become active participants in the world, able to navigate the complexities of life, cultivating people who cherish diversity and believe in equality for all, and nurturing the desire in students to pursue their own happiness. It is my belief that without excellent teachers and a well-rounded, quality curriculum, these things would be difficult to achieve. Art education is essential in bringing these things
