The author of the article, Shirley A. Sahrmann, makes a point towards empowering physical therapists among the other health care professionals and solidifying a prominent identity through the movement system. The notion suggested in the article is that physical therapist development of movement system diagnosis, and not the current system of pathoanotomic diagnostic process, will produce a better skilled physical therapist. I will argue for the conclusion of physical therapists moving towards diagnosing syndromes of the human movement system and not simply just treating patients based on another health care practitioner’s diagnosis. This will bring even more respect and heightened responsibility upon therapists, which will in turn improve and sharpen the practitioners in this field. In the physical therapy education there must be emphasis on diagnosing syndromes of human movement system, and certain programs have them already. I think this is important because it will make therapist more skilled and ready to diagnose patients rather than just treat another health care professional’s diagnosis. The new wave of students must learn this because there is a chance physical therapist may be allowed to do the diagnosis in the near future. Shirley A.
