Physical Therapy Personal Statement

I have been given the opportunity to further my education in health care. Starting in January of 2023 I will be pursuing my Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Baylor University. This is an accelerated 2 year program required to be a practicing physical therapist. Below I have outlined some of my goals and reasons for completing the program. I have been dreaming of being a physical therapist for over a decade. Physical therapy is the career path that I will be pursuing with this doctoral program. Like many others I have experienced physical therapy firsthand as an athlete. This began my dream of becoming a physical therapist. However, I was not motivated to be a physical therapist until I was able to see physical therapy in the workplace. I became drawn to physical therapy as I was able to observe the quality of life and functionality of patients improve through their treatment program. The prerequisites for this DPT program that I completed during undergrad have given me the foundation to begin my doctoral program. I also worked as a technician in between my undergraduate education and starting my graduate program. I worked in a general orthopedic clinic where we saw a variety of patients. We saw geriatric, pelvic floor, and athletes on a daily basis. Working as a technician allowed me to develop numerous skills in patient communication as well as learn some physical therapy techniques and palpation skills. Working as a technician allowed me to be very hands on with patients which I was not able to do during my observation hours
