Kids should be introduced to sports at a young age. For kids to gain more social benefits they should start a sport a young age. If kids need to build up physical benefits,sports is one way to help it. But the risk of injury or failure can happen happen in sports would you take the risk in letting your kid play?
Are Kids In Sports At Risk? By katy shelton While some teens enjoy playing video games or reading, I enjoy playing sports with my friends like skateboarding or gymnastics. Some people think kids in sports are in danger but I disagree because when kids join a sport they know what they're in for and their in it to enjoy it. Kids in sports are not at risk because, it builds lifelong relationships and friendships, builds self confidence in themselves, and it helps kids realize their potential abilities. However kids in sports can be in danger because injuries are on the rise.
It is true that obesity and physical inactivity can be unhealthy and dangerous for a child; it is the 4 leading cause of death after all (Myer); but banning contact sports wouldn’t necessarily cause obesity or physical inactivity. If contact sports are to be banned children can still choose to play a different sport; there are plenty of other sports like soccer and basketball. In fact, sports are becoming a much more popular thing in the US and more children are getting physically active. According to Terry Adirim : “Half of all children aged 5-18 years in the US are thought to participate in organized sports programs, This nears that an estimated 30 million school aged children children are involved in sports, which represents a substantial increase over the last 20-30 years (Adirim). Now that more and more children are playing sports, obesity and physical inactivity isn’t as high as it once was.
A major reason is that sports keep kids healthy. R. Dawn Comstock, an investigator at the Center for Injury Research and Policy stated “We have an epidemic of obesity in this country, and sports is one of the ways for kids to incorporate exercise in their lives” (qtd. in Perkel 2) . Most kids don’t get active anymore.

Health and contact sports are something parents worry about as over 500 deaths in the past 3 years from contact sports alone are making parents stand out against these sports and if the government doesn 't do anything about it the number of 7% overall contact sports drop will just keep getting lower and lower each time. Kids being paralyzed is the fear for many athletes these days and the number f kids getting paralyzed has increases 2% which is equivalent to about 8,000 kids each year which is crazy to think about kids can 't play sports for the rest of thrie and maybe not be able to live their life because of it so next you hear mom or dad i wanna play sports your answer should be a simple NO. Kids under 10 need to stop playing contact sports because 45% of kids under 10 getting hurt are from contact sports and 5% of the time its ending that kids chances to play sports in the feature, Not to mention contact sports can also make kids go to their fullest and being burned out and although contact provide some kids will useful tools in life most of the time there is more negative than positive. Health, Age, Contact, parents, are some of the many reasons contact sports can be very dangerous for the youth.
But, according to , kids are now being thought new and enhanced techniques of playing the sport. The chances of injuries and concussions are rapidly decreasing. Therefore, kids should be allowed to play the sport. Moreover, it has been proven through many studies that active kids do better in school.
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, states that the percentages of children being affected by obesity has tripled since 1970s. Resulting, in 1 to 5 school age children and young people with obesity in the United States. Informing parents the major outcome of children not being active. Involving kids in a sport benefits their health and well-being. Especially a young boy who energy levels are increasingly high at a young age.
Concentrating on winning or losing spoils the fun that games hold. In addition, equal chances should be provided to every child to participate. Competitive nature can assist the children in their life later on, but the focus should be on better mental and physical health. Health Fitness says “ Children who participate in sports develop stronger muscles and bones, and the stronger you are the less likely you will suffer from physical injury.” Some argue that with competitive sports kids are more likely to get injured, however this shows that when kids do more practice and they play at more games they are less likely to get hurt. When they are less likely to get hurt the more they can go to practice and the more motivated they are to go to practice and games. In addition health fitness says “Having a controlled weight leads to happier children and decreases the risk of diseases that come from being overweight in their lifetimes, such as heart disease and diabetes.” This is important because if kids play more sports the less likely they are to be obese and when kids aren’t obese they can’t get the diseases and when kids can’t get the diseases they will be healthier physically and mentally.
“In the U.S., about 30 million children and teens participate in some form of organized sports, and more than 3.5 million injuries each year” claims Stanford Children’s Health. It’s definitely true that competitive sports can cause all sorts of injuries from big to small. The media teaches people simply that sports leads to horrific injuries and can cause stress, but what the mainstream media hardly discusses are the great benefits of competitive sports. While there may be some negatives to competitive sports, that’s just life, and to add on to that; there are plenty of benefits which are sure to override to media’s facts. Kids should play competitive sports because competitive sports teach children powerful life lessons, contributes to their social and mental stability, and because of the physical gain competitive sports provides.
