Overview
A PLC program promotes teachers to collaborate on their performance, which in turn improves student performance (Jolly, 2005). Collaboration on instructions allows teachers to use data- driven instructions to come up with effective ways of teaching the students (DuFour, 2006). PLC as a teaching resource provides a teacher leader with a platform where they can explore initiatives aimed at improving the overall learning process. PLC makes a difference for the students as the learning process is focused on the student performance and strategies to improve their performance.
Reasons to collaborate on instruction
According to Jolly, PLC as a teacher leader tool evaluates what teachers require both in their professional and personal life making the teaching process efficient (2005) . The need to collaborate on instructions is derived from the application of instructional data to help improve student performance (DuFour, 2006). For example, teachers highlight various errors made by students and collected information to be shared with students on how best to avoid the errors and improve their learning.

In a PLC team, individual efforts from teachers are evaluated to produce effective instructional practices. It is also a method of mentoring teachers to be effective in their work. In my school, I was introduced to the concept of the PLC as a new teacher assistant and at the time, mentoring from experienced teachers helped in acquiring strategies to teach and deal with some challenges in the classroom.
