Pluto is not a planet because in order to be classified as a planet an object needs to orbit a sun, have sufficient gravity to be round or slightly ovaled shape, not a satellite or moon of another object and lastly has removed debris in and around it’s orbit.
Pluto is classified as a dwarf planet because it has not cleared all debris and it is unusually small. It is roughly half the width of united states and because it's so far from the sun, the temperature is around 375 to 400 degrees below zero. It orbits the sun in an unusual fashion too. It orbits in a oval shape going upwards half the time at about a 17 degree angle. It also has one-fifteenth of the gravity of earth.
