Examples of Extremes Along the Political Spectrum Running against Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries, Senator Bernie Sanders was viewed by some as an extreme leftist. Senator Sanders advocated that companies pay their “fair share” of taxes and should stop shifting jobs overseas. Senator Sanders, in his quest for financial equality, argued for a $15-an-hour minimum wage; he also argued for pay equity among men and women and that those wishing to attend public universities could do so regardless of income. Senator Sanders was also a proponent of teens graduating high school and going on to a four-year degree at no cost/ debt to the students for doing so. Secretary of State Clinton ran her campaign as more of a moderate. Clinton argued for an economy “that works for everyone”—theoretically, calling for an increase in minimum wage and some pay-equity legislation, but did not advocate extreme positions like her counterpart. Secretary Clinton also advocated for programs such as one that would lead to an end in Alzheimer’s disease, curing/ mitigating Autism, mitigating sexual assaults on campus, as well as others.
