My position as an Associate at Coffee Culture Markham is an experience that I believe encompasses all aspects of business, beginning from welcoming customers to partaking in back-office activities. This position has allowed me to gain experiences that are the best examples of not only my leadership skills, but also my initiative and communication skills. The most prevalent aspect of my job included training new employees and is the best example of my leadership skills. This task ended up being time consuming, so I decided to create a vigorous training routine that allows new employees to become familiar with their duties in a shorter period of time. Being a family-owned business, Coffee Culture has also allowed me to participate in back office activities, such as: ordering inventory, updating time sheets, and receiving deliveries. Inventory is done at a monthly basis, and requires a lot of diligence. This task is a rather long one, and so I took the initiative to create a system that breaks down the counting of our resources in a much shorter and efficient manner, where employees are responsible for specific parts of the store. Aside from tracking inventory, I assisted in listing out purchases required on a week-to-week basis. This taught me the business trends of the store; on what is selling more and what isn’t selling, and how to minimize overstocking and expenses. In the absence of a time-entry system, I created an excel sheet to record staff members time to provide biweekly payroll information. As for receiving deliveries, I was responsible to the task to make sure the expiry dates of the items were proper, that there weren’t any missing items or a back-order. Each task involved the initiative to create efficient systems to ensure things are done diligently and
