In the article The Cost of Paying Attention, the author, Matthew B. Crawford shares his revelation that individuals are constantly surrounded by advertisements. He starts by sharing an instance where he saw advertisements as he was checking out at a grocery store and then claims that they constantly steal consumers limited attention there by taking away our ability to dwell in silence or without the advertisements. He questions what would happen if individuals valued attention as much as they valued air and water. He recalls the advertisements he has seen in airports that could have caused him to forget something valuable because he was more focused on the advertisement for even a moment. He addresses the cluelessness of consumers as they are,
Extroverts can be some of the best people you meet. They have plenty to offer and thrive at the attention of others. However, being introverted can be just as great. In a society where being extroverted is the ideal, it can be very difficult to be an introvert. Susan Cain argues in her Ted Talk, “The Power of Introverts”, that introverts can share many brilliant ideas with the world and should be encouraged and celebrated for who they are.
When the student is ready, the master will appear is a chinese quote for learning and wanting to learn. This quote is big for today 's society because people are not wanting to learn and being lazy. People expect to just know everything but if they don 't work for anything how will they learn. This proverb can be explained by many people, books, and current events such as The Hatchet, Galileo, and Albert Einstein. Galileo is a perfect example for the proverb, some examples of why are shown in this paragraph.
Autumn Stern Galileo Trial Summary + Copernicus Write Up In the early 17th century, there was no doubt that the Catholic church held extreme power throughout Europe. They also held to the geocentric theory (all planets, heavenly bodies and the sun revolving around the earth) put forth by Ptolemy and Aristotle because of how neatly it could fit into the current teachings. Unlike this theory, however, Galileo enforced Copernicus’ heliocentric theory with inductive reasoning rather than deductive. Galileo made observations about the moons of Jupiter and their orbit around Jupiter, which he likened to a smaller version of their solar system.
Susan’s Ted Talks discusses how we live in a world that caters to extroverts: group projects, open offices, constant meetings. From a young age you are taught you need to be part of a group and cheer with the team. These are all things that introverts find draining; when we are unable to submerge ourselves into these situations, we are often
If middle schoolers learn what introverts and extroverts are and how they are both important in the world, they can learn how to be kind and nice to them (extroverts and introverts) and how to also be kind to themselves.” (Katz, Jennifer. Personal interview. 20 Feb 2023. ) By reading "Quiet Power," introverted seventh-graders can learn coping strategies to manage social anxiety and stress, such as finding quiet spaces to retreat to and practicing mindfulness
Whether Galileo is at fault or not for his bold actions and conviction of the church, his discoveries and progress was
Introverts act as mavericks, tending to converse with others with deeper connections whereas extroverts form more superficial connections with a greater number of people, which seems almost quixotic. It 's especially important to consider the arguments constructed in this book in the frame of a child. Introverted children should be exposed gradually to the world of extroversion, but should not be pushed past their limits otherwise they may "feel emotionally threatened" and associate school with negative emotions. Instead, they should focus on their deepest interests and try to attend a school that suits their personalities, with understanding teachers an integral element of the
Pat Galagan describes a time where he “watched a facilitator separate a group of 100 people into two groups—Myers-Briggs-typed extroverts and introverts. The big group of “Es” occupied most of the room, bonding aggressively with one another, while the “Is” huddled silently in a corner, looking embarrassed and probably wishing they could escape to someplace quiet and read a book about introversion that did not make it sound like a sickness.” He then goes on “how a very high number of very creative people are introverts, and their ability to sit still and think quietly helps introverts earn better grades in high school and college than extroverts, and individuals working alone are usually more productive than groups.” (Galagan) The reason why introverts constantly feel out of place, other than introversion being a “second-class” personality trait, is because schools and work places make it difficult for people to find quiet alone time for reflection.
Extroverts will likely recognize the behavior described in their friends and family, and be reminded that while extroversion certainly has much to offer, so does introversion. This is a book that intends to improve all aspects of life through appreciation of diverse skills and tendencies, a book that simultaneously calls out the flaws in our culture and shows us the way to fix them. He is most memorable as an astronomer and modified older version of the telescope to view the heavens. He was the first to observe the moon and Jupiter in great detail. Using the modified telescope, he could see the seas of the moon, the vast planet Jupiter and its neighboring moons, which influenced his way of thinking that the Earth is not the center of the universe. This theory was originally created by the ideals of Copernicus, who believed that the Earth is not the center of the universe, but one among many planets that orbit the sun. However, Galileo did not publicly endorse Copernicus’s theory in fear of being ridiculed by the public and the church (Lau).
In our world today people are assessed by how much they do, how they behave, how communicative they are, and how well they socialize. Introverts and extroverts are two different personality traits based on characteristics. So, who are introverts and extroverts? Basically, introverts are people who are reserved and prefer more time being alone because they feel more comfortable and energized whereas extroverts are people who are energized by social interaction and love being at the center of interaction. According to Susan Cain, who talked about ‘The Power of Introverts’ in her Ted Talk, extroverts really crave large amounts of stimulation, whereas introverts feel at their most alive and their most switched-on and their most capable when they're
