I have improved in many areas throughout this college prep writing course. An excellent writer is able to explain their thoughts clearly to the audience. It is very important that a writer has proper grammar, correct punctuation, and intelligent word choice so that the sentences flow properly. In all honesty, I was not expecting to learn nearly as much as I have throughout the semester. I now understand how to properly use commas, semicolons, and correct punctuation. My details have become more apparent, which helps the readers make better connections to my thesis. During the college prep writing course, I have done a better job of creating a strong thesis that is fully answered throughout the essay. My mechanical correctness of my essays has also improved, which includes my spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
Although I have improved in those aspects of my writing, my word choice still needs improvement. I have been focusing on improving in that aspect and will continue to try and improve by expanding my vocabulary and editing my papers more thoroughly. I need to use specific vocabulary so that my essays convey the proper meaning. I hope to improve in that area so that I am able to use powerful and engaging words that create a memorable image. The skills that I have learned will not only help me in my future high school classes but also my college courses. My understanding of how to use proper punctuation will help me in many aspects of my future career. I improved dramatically on my punctuation skills by doing all of the no red ink skills and focusing on what I know needed some improvement.
