Recently in a moment of personal reflection, I thought to myself, “I have a strong passion and desire to live a life dedicated to helping other people.” The interesting thing is I always wanted to play a larger part in helping people. I choose to study for a Master in Public Administration with a concertation in Healthcare Policy at Baruch College for two reason my passion for social change, and to fight against the social determinates in healthcare. My long term professional goal is to become a chief executive at a public healthcare center. The challenges these organization have is to serve a community that has a lot of negative aspects against them and sometimes complex medical backgrounds. The system also needs to be changed mainly in the public healthcare system. Theses institutes serve most of the underserved population. The homeless, undocumented, poor, and uneducated are primarily served by healthcare institutes in the public sector. This problem was combated with the passing of the affordable care act making it mandatory for everyone to have insurance giving poorer individuals more access, however in compression public institutes services more individuals with social detriments compared to their private competitors. Many of them are vastly underfunded and have to compete with larger upscale healthcare centers with larger budgets, larger donations, and higher reimbursement rates so they are stuck with the problem of doing more with less. It will take a lot of work but there is truly no other place other than Baruch College that can give me the opportunity to obtain a quality education that can give me the skills I know I need to combat these challenges in my career. I want to lead organizations on how to help communities strive and care about their physical and mental
