Testing is a grueling task that you or your child have to go through every year but why? States should ban these state tests in order to minimize the amount of stress have weighing down on your shoulders. When schools prepare for the standardized tests, you are refusing kids the opportunity of to have fun at school such as recess. To make matters worse, the multiple choice format of the tests offers a more adjustable environment for boys as the scoring of multiple choice is like that of a video game.
Every test score is a direct reflection of not only the student but their teacher(s) and the school district. With these tests, we’re forcing students inside this box even though we know each student’s skill differs from the next. We eliminate the opportunity to track student’s progress as individuals because we have to group them as wholes. This one size fits all mold hurts those who have special needs or are English language learners more than it helps the general population of students. State funding is a big issue in my eyes.
The net result is less wasted instructional time and a simplified way of timeline management. It also gives parents a good idea of how their children are doing as compared to students across the country and locally. This can also allow students’ progress to be tracked over the years. However, when this test is as a tool or indicator to evaluate education performance and to have some sort of accountability for schools and teachers. The problem arises when teachers have "added" pressure of making sure everyone succeeds because of these tests on top of the normal stress and pressure of educating their students.
To oppose the pro-standerdized tests, stricter testing decreases student achievement. They feel like the test are "life or death," Therefore memorizing facts opposed to actually learning them. That gives the impression that sudents arent actually learning anything. In conclusion, Removing the tests completly or at least making them smaller would impact future generations wholesale.
In theory these tests are a perfect way to boost the education system but in reality it causes a lot of problems and hasn’t helped all that
The current climate of standardized testing creates unreasonable stress for both students and all school staff. While there is a welcome shift to measuring individual and group student progress, as opposed to solely higher overall test scores, there still remains a great deal of pressure due to continued significant consequences for results that are viewed as inadequate. A colleague of mine once shared her view of how state testing could be improved. I have given her perspective a great deal of consideration since our conversation. She proposed that annual state testing, with the exception of those tests that may be given to seniors in high school, should be administered a month or so after the beginning of school.
The tests put so much pressure on the students that some may not be comfortable testing, causing them to do poorly and making the test ineffective as it is not truly recording the student’s
These standardized tests are severely damaging the educational system. There is an extremely high budget, and high stakes achievement that rides on your test scores. Although all states use some form of standardized testing, the testing proves to be inefficient, and should be eliminated. As stated above standardized testing proves to be very stressful on the test takers.
People have multiple levels of intelligences that no test could ever measure. They cause so much unnecessary stress. Furthermore, they do not show if students are truly college and career ready. During the time students are taking theses worthless tests, they could be actual learning something new and applying it in the real
Furthermore, children are being robbed of their childhoods by standardized testing, which is why this can lead to stress and altered moods. (CS) Hence, all standardized testing should be removed from school because they cause pressure, stress, and
One of the arguments about state testing is how state standardized tests affect the amount of money that school is given based on how many students pass. The more students who pass the test help get the school more money and the more students who fail prevent the school from getting the money it needs. Standardized tests exist for administrative, political, and financial purposes, not for educational ones. Because the amount of kids passing or lack thereof affects the amount of money that school is funding, that becomes the sole priority for these teachers and/or administrators
The way we test takes up time that could be used to learn something new. The first piece of evidence that I have, is that the tests cause stress to many people. The text stated, “Tests cause lots of stress and anxiety to people.” Some reasons are that parents believe that teachers have been “teaching to the test” throughout the years.
Before she overheard what her stepmother had to say, she ran as fast as she could back to the fireplace. She figured that she should get some sleep and devised a plan to go hunting for squirrels the next day. Gretel became exhausted from fatigue, so she fell asleep. She woke up with a sudden jolt as snowflakes tickled her face.
Students leave school stressed and full of anxiety and its actually making a negative effect on their everyday life. Students get so overwhelmed that harming themselves is in the picture. The state needs to realize that students aren’t giving their 100% and they will never know their actual academic skills. So why give standardized test? Teachers need to focus on the future and teaching them skills they need in their everyday life.
It’s one in the morning, before dawn. I should be sleeping, but instead I’m huddled in the dark. My eyes blurry, droopy and dead. Sitting next to me; a pair of scissors that I thought then would do me good. You can guess what happened next… the scars remind me everyday.
