This is the New Jersey grade 4 Science end of year final test samples. There are a variety of item types ranging from multiple choice questions and short answers up through essays. They include all the important aspects of grade 4 science content: life science, chemistry, physics, earth science, and astronomy and space science, as well as mathematical applications. These ideas are examples of the core science content likely to appear in any middle grade material and are common to benchmarks, national standards, and NJ state frameworks. Rather than memorizing the science contents, this assessment is also designed to use knowledge to describe, explain, and predict real-world phenomena, consider alternative positions on issues, and even solve practical problems.

The net result is less wasted instructional time and a simplified way of timeline management. It also gives parents a good idea of how their children are doing as compared to students across the country and locally. This can also allow students’ progress to be tracked over the years. However, when this test is as a tool or indicator to evaluate education performance and to have some sort of accountability for schools and teachers. The problem arises when teachers have "added" pressure of making sure everyone succeeds because of these tests on top of the normal stress and pressure of educating their students. I think there should be an increase in formative assessment testing after each concept is taught to see if the student is retaining the information and meeting the standards for his/her level which then helps formulate a realistic and effective
