Every year several million animals die due to animal testing in for medical, psychological, and products research. Moreover, animal testing is something that shouldn’t be continued and for it is completely wrong and cruel. Animal testing started in the late 300’s BC. Aristotle and Erasistratus performed many experiments that involved living animals. Similarly, Galen, a greek physician, conducted animals research to explore the field of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
Animal Testing has been a very controversial topic for decades. Throughout history, animal testing has played a major role in leading to many new medicines and discoveries. Most of the world participates in these experiments, with the aims of achieving the most modern technologies. Animal testing needs to be continued to advance our science and medicines, and to continue to save millions of lives.
Although animal testing brings more medical advancement and less human-based experiments, it is an expensive, painful and inhuman way of researching imprecise outputs and at the same time, it is a practice of animal cruelty.
There are people out in the world who don’t see the good things when I come to animal testing. They just look at all the negatives and think about the animals in the process of the experiments and researches. What they don’t see, is that how much they help us humans in staying alive and making special treatments. When testing the animals, they have contributed to so many cures and treatments, and sometimes the animals don’t even die. Animal testing, according to the Humane Society International, is deemed as cruel and inhumane, especially in an age where alternatives are present. During animal experimentation, the test subjects are put through both physical pain and psychological distress. (Humane Society International, n.d.) Animal experimentation also supplies limited results when human diseases are recreated in animals, seeing as they have different bodily anatomy and therefore will not supply real world results. In addition to the lack of real time reactions, different organism species react differently to a variety of drugs and substances, and for that reason many animal tests that are performed are, in fact, performed in vain.
Scientific experimentation on animals should be strongly encouraged and not outlawed because it is a necessary requirement to further human knowledge; it finds diseases so they can be cured, as well as animals are useful for testing drugs to better human health. With animal testing, it has hindered the focus of bettering the alternatives that are already out there, but it cannot rise to the surface of normality since animal testing is all that people want to believe is available. Is the amount of money, false results, and pain that an animal endures during testing worth it? When will we stop trying to re-create the past and try to move on to the newer and better alternatives that are available. We must try to use these newer medical advances, alternative research choices and find other resources to use—they are out there, we just have not given it our full attention.
