Pets or Cosmetic Testers? A little girl sees a man carrying a cage with an adorable bunny and three little mice inside. She wants to take them home as she adored pets, but her daddy tells her that they must go to a science lab for experiments. Imagine being locked inside of a cage without any control. This is the life of a laboratory animal, and the sad fact is that almost all new products, from cosmetics to drugs, go through an animal experimentation phase, but are not required to. Although many believe that this seems to be a good option as opposed to human testing, I feel that it is inhumane and unnecessary because it causes pain, suffering, and death to animals, has little scientific relevance, and cost taxpayers billions of dollars each year. Each year, millions of animals are tortured, hurt, or killed because of animal testing. These animals feel pain, isolation, deprivation, and misery. Many people believe that animals do not feel have feelings, but there should be an argument that everything feels pain. Like humans, animals have rights as well, and it is arrogant and morally wrong to discriminate …show more content…
Testing a company’s product on an animal does not necessarily mean it is safe for humans because there is a vast difference between the genetic makeup of the tested animals and humans. These test results determine the effectiveness for animals, not for humans. For example, rabbits have more sensitive and thinner corneas than humans, but each year many are still tortured and blinded for eye medication tests. Other animals undergo skin tests for beauty products, which hold very little credibility because the skin and hair of an animal are very different from humans. In fact, many products on the market today caused irritation or death to an animal, but the product still made to a shelf safely for
