Males can impregnate hundreds of women in a single year but in a single year one female can only have one full term pregnancy. Is it time that we turn the focus to more viable options of birth control for men?
Birth control was invented in 1960, and since then, there have been 17 new forms of birth control for women all with their own advantages and disadvantages, but in that time Only three forms of birth control have been created for men.When it comes to birth control for men, the three most common and only kinds are condoms, vasectomies, and the pull out method. of these three forms one involves surgery, one only has a 97% effective rate, And one only has a 78% effective rate and does not protect against STDs. Studies have been proven before showing that male birth control is effective, however, due to side effects such as mood swings, muscle aches, cramps, headaches, etc. most men dropped out of the study. For women, taking birth control has more than one purpose such as regulation periods, easing pain and of course, not having children; birth control for males on the other hand, would only have one purpose to serve and if it takes up to three months and has side effects. Male contraceptives are progressing now more than ever giving males even more control over the decision to have children and to prevent becoming “trapped” in some cases. Although it is not known if male contraceptives have any other benefits besides the obvious of preventing pregnancies, for now it is a big step in the right direction and with the side effects being kept at bay there are few reasons to why sexually active males should not be on the male contraceptive pill. With a cheap, affordable, and effective male contraceptive on the rise, this will also help the rates of teen pregnancy drop significantly in the years to come once it gains popularity and normality that female contraceptives have today. Although in the past, male contraceptives have been a flop due to men backing out because of side effects that resembled that of a period, this past year, male contraceptives have been a huge success and male contraceptives have hit the doctor's office and are now available to men in the United States.
