I have recently started a new position in the IT department of a midsized, multinational, BIG-CLOUD company to create and graphically depict a cloud-based business continuity plan and disaster recovery plan. I was asked to specifically plan for the high fault items first and then ways to mitigate chances of disasters. I must also figure out how much control my company will want over its data regarding sourcing out to third-party companies. Finally, I will need to assess the pros and cons of my suggested solutions and whether the pros outweigh the cons.
Plan Differences
The two plans I need to create are the disaster recovery plan and the business continuity plan. A disaster recovery plan is a business plan that describes how work can be resumed

For network failures, I can choose from many ways to mitigate them. One of the most important things I can do is have a set order of checks and balances. I need to ensure that my department is continuously checking for errors and verifying that everything is operating optimally. I must ensure that all my shields are as secure as possible. There is always a risk of ex-employees or criminals that would like to see harm to a company, so I need to ensure the protection of my company’s network is as powerful and up to date as possible. For database failures, all the steps that I took with mitigating network failures will continue. For fires, it will change in certain aspects but remain the same in others. I will still need to have set checks and balances that will prevent a major disaster like a fire. The most important thing will be having a specific fire suppression system to minimize injury damage and downtime. Another important thing will have to be having the correct fire extinguishers throughout the building and ensuring that they are maintained and working correctly.
Control Over Data
I would suggest my company keep as much control over its data as possible. This is allowing us to adequately maintain everything and verifying that all our data is being protected. Although, sometimes this may not be possible. If I do need to outsource to other companies, I would suggest keeping this to a minimum. I would maintain as much personally identifiable information within my company as possible and outsource things that if lost they would not be detrimental to my company.
