Positive and Negative Aspects of Available Traditional Treatments
Mental health disorders and lack of treatment or recognition of signs and symptoms is all over the news. A condition so common, but so complicated to treat. The American Psychiatric Association details each mental illness disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5).
Mental disorders (depression, behavioral issues, schizophrenia, and emotional disorders) is not a one size fits all treatment protocol. Some individuals may benefit from medication and psychotherapy (talk therapy). Individuals may have to be admitted to an inpatient psychiatric rehabilitation. The most important part of any treatment with mental illness is consistency. An important aspect of treatment is the individual that needs treatment be involved in the plan.
The medications used for mental health disorders work differently in each person, what works for one may not work for the other, even if they have the same diagnosis. Several medications may have to be tried to find the right one. The medications take time to start working and the patient must understand that the level of medication needs to be maintained to feel better.
