Instead, the biological rollercoaster of hypervigilance takes the officer time away from families and damage the fabric of their lives. When the officers are on duty, they feel alive, engaged, and excited. It is what drives them to do more, be more, and get more. But, an off-duty cop, it’s completely the opposite for him or her.

I have learned so much from my high school american history course so far and I’m genuinely shocked by how interesting the information we are learning is. When I generally think about history it bores me but when I started learning about history this year everything changed. I think it’s very important to know history because without those historic events we quite possibly wouldn’t be where we are today. So that’s what I will be trying to do.

This would imply that there is also a misconception view of how even black police officers are seen. The scenario was supposed to be an example of how to stop a person. However, because African Americans are seen as dangerous, the scenario described above does not imply the same idea as it does when there is a white officer pointing a gun towards a black person. The police officer present thought they saw a mugging more than anything else. People in society are not used to seen a black police officer in the streets stopping a white person as indicated by the scenario (Conlon 2).
Policing Tactics are Unjust In 2012, an African American was murdered every 28 hours by either police officers or persons of authority (Hudson). Of this amount, 43% of murders occurred as a result of racial profiling (Hudson). Police officers are tasked with the duty of protecting people across the nation; however, in a time of urgency, officers are instead harming the people. Although some believe police are behaving in a justified manner, the unnecessary brutality and racial profiling is caused by an inherent belief of white superiority and an internal fear of African Americans.

There is definitely more stress, both good and bad, in the criminal justice field than most other fields. The good stress is the excitement of catching criminals and helping the public, which is like the good stress of scoring a touchdown in football or hitting a homerun in baseball. The bad stress come from things that those in other fields do not see such as “exposure to murders, numerous car accidents, seeing hurt kids, and other types of secondhand trauma” (Herships, 2015, par. 2). On the job bad stress also comes from the tough administrative policies and procedures that accompany the criminal justice field (Cronkhite, 2013). These stresses can lead to suicide if not kept under control as police officers have a higher suicide

The concept of militarization refers to the adoption of military tactics, equipment, and strategies by police departments, a process which began in 1965 with the inception of SWAT teams in Philadelphia ().
