Can Obamacare/ACA be repealed and replaced with something better? Yes, it can, but the failures and possible fixes need to be addressed. There are four items that need to be fixed: Costs: Costs for employers in the market have gone up considerably since the law was signed in 2010.
Deductibles keep rising, too, especially for Obamacare exchange plans. According to an analysis by HealthPocket, the average deductible for a bronze plan in 2017 is $6,092 for an individual and $12,383 for a family. The average silver plan for an individual is $3,572 and $7,474 for a family. If it fails before a replacement is instituted all those who received insurance under the law may lose it again. Here are a few ideas to implement if a compromise cannot be reached on a repeal and replace platform. The quickest fix is already implemented by Obamacare without anyone mentioning it. Everyone is freaking out over the repeal, the exchanges offer subsidies and those who don’t get subsidies are already in Medicaid, i.e. welfare. No one will technically lose their coverage by repealing.
Congress needs to act and make sure that the insurance markets in place are stable and can sustain further growth if needed for improved markets.
Reduce the costs in the individual and small group markets by liberalizing insurance rules, particularly the federal benefit and insurance rating rules, which artificially drive up premium costs for younger families. Reduce the costs of employer-sponsored insurance. Administratively, this can be done by liberalizing the “grandfather rules”, thus allowing employers greater flexibility to alter or modify their plans, delaying the employer mandate reporting and penalty requirements. Legislatively, Congress should kill the employer mandate entirely.
These are just a few fixes that need to be looked at, discussed, and maybe included in Congresses plans to repeal Obamacare and the ACA, and replace it with something much better and
