The Affordable Care Act was a health care act that was established by the federal government to expand and improves access to care and curb spending through regulations and taxes. Each state could decide to participate or not. The act was adopted as law by US Fisher02 President Barrack Obama in March 2010. The goal of this act was to reform the current health care in the United States.

The goal of the act is to ensure the middle-class families security. It keeps health care costs low and holds insurance companies accountable. Insurance companies no longer have the “unchecked” power to cancel a person’s policy, deny a child’s coverage because of a pre-existing condition or change differently for women or men. Almost 13 million Americans will receive a rebate and covers preventive care for free.
Before the Affordable Care Act, Health Care in the United States was obtained in multiple ways. Approximately 33% of Americans received their health care from Medicare which is Health Care for the elderly, Medicaid which is Health Care for the poor, Tricare, and VA. Privately provided Health Care accounted for 50% of Americans, and 16% of Americans were uninsured. 16% equates to about 50 million people. Two major problems faced in the American health care system before the Affordable Care Act, 16% of the population was uninsured and health care costs were rising rapidly.
This hefty premium force people like Melissa and Bob to become uninsured because they cannot afford it.
It is a law that is still under debate to this day because of religious/moral rights, costs, etc. However because of this law many Americans have health insurance now and are able to seek treatment and services that they had no access to

Those who support Obamacare claims that the ACA ensures more coverage for middle class Americans. The ACA extend health subsidies to those with incomes from 300% up to 400% of the federal poverty guidelines. In addition, the ACA allows people under the age of 26 to stay on their parent’s plan until they turn 26, allowing those who have trouble paying for insurance to find a way to pay for medical costs.

There are way too many people with diseases and health problems to just ignore it. Allowing something like this to get through a bill is so dangerous, because so many people could possibly be without coverage. Not everyone in the world has money to afford increased rates, so changing the bill and protecting pre-existing health conditions would make a big difference. There is a reason ACA was created to protect the people, as in the past “Prior to the ACA, insurers could discriminate against consumers based on their current health conditions and medical history” (Gee) so it would be absurd to remove it already. It is important that bias actions like these never happen again and this would be the best recommendation for the bill.

Citizens of America have been offered more rights and protections to be able to access affordable health care to millions of them that are uninsured. There are a few pros that the Affordable Care Act has had since its inception. One is that millions of uninsured Americans now have access to healthcare. This allows for people to go to a regular provider and not abuse the emergency room department. ERs are now able to treat those who have medical emergencies versus those who are coming in for a common cold. People who are of low income, young adults, blacks, and hispanics have all had an increase in those who now have healthcare.
Obama care is offered to people who do not have the option of affordable insurance, their employer doesn’t offer insurance, and they do not qualify for Medicaid. The affordable healthcare act also known as Obama care is a very complicated act that an average person would have difficulties understanding. Like any other law, some individuals will benefit from it more than others. It will also have many issues and problems that will take a while to fix. In some cases, the issues may not be fixable at all. There have been many modifications to the act, and the government will still make many more changes.
