Remember when zoos used to be a lot more fun? Have you ever thought of the fact that the animals are being abused ? Based on the environment animals are not getting the health they need. As humans we have fun at zoos seeing all the excitement happen but, the animals don't.
The current laws pertaining to zoo animals are pitiful. The way the laws are set up around this pertaining topic makes it very hard to give animals protection under the law (Grech). It also makes it very hard for animal activists to attempt to give animals the life and protection they deserve on their behalf (Grech). The way the law is set up, animals are property owned by the zoo they are housed in (Grech). The amount of protection an animal receives under U.S Zoos is dependent upon their species (Grech).
In my opinion, Robert Laidlaw presented a more logical argument in his article “Zoos: Myth and Reality”. To start off with, I think animals are not getting the proper care they need to help them survive. According to Laidlaw, he states, “But most zoos fail to live up to their own propaganda and vast numbers of zoo animals continue to endure the lives of misery and deprivation.” Second of all, I think animals are suffering from captivity. In the text it says, “But there is one issue in which there seems to be widespread agreement-- at least in principle.

I think that zoos are bad for animals. I think they are bad for many reasons. Some animals can get very harmed, or even die. Zoos aren’t the best place for animals. Animals can get Zoochosis, they can get poached, and they don’t get enough exercise.

Growing up I had my own idea of what a zoo was, a place like the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo full of beautiful animals and dedicated to education, research, and conservation. After persistent research I have come to find that not all zoos are the same. Zoos can range from nationally ranked research facilities to makeshift “monkey-shows” dedicated to profit. The debate of whether zoos are ethical can be easily split between animal rights activists and zoo advocates. Animal rights activists argue that it is inhumane to house animals in inadequate habitats and are upset that many species that aren’t considered endangered are being held in zoos around the world.

Some of the animals that you see in zoos are not always born in captivity. They can be taken right out of the wild as well. Although zoos are fun to visit, animals should not be held in captivity because the breed can become overpopulated, they do not know how to survive on their own, and they are being abused.

Humans need to stop being captivated by captivity; there is no beauty in stolen freedom. Zoos across the planet should be banned as animals are being forcefully taken from their natural habitats, sufficient space can not be provided, and many facilities discourage natural behavior resulting in potential harm to the animals involved.

People can visit zoos for money and watch animals like they are in some kind of television show or commercial program what is done for people only. Also, one of the biggest reasons zoos exist is not for helping animals in danger, but in fact breeding them for human enjoyment. Starting thousands of years ago, zoos attracted large crowds around the world. Because of that, everyone today has seen, been to, or heard of a zoo at least once in their lifetime.
