Imagine sitting in a room, receiving pointless therapy from someone who might not even be a licensed therapist all in the effort to convert you to a different sexuallity. Research shows, ẗhat no one changed...¨(Lila Shapiro), hence the ´pointless therapy´ and that in fact all the therapy has done is, ¨create great harm and devastation in many lives...¨(Lila Shapiro).Conversion therapy is unethical in the sense that it is harmful and neglectful to the fact that it is unsuccessful. It is undoubtable that the effects and treatment of conversion therapy are harmful to the countless number of patients ill-treated. “In 2012, California became the first state to protect LGBT youth from dangerous and scientifically discredited efforts by state-licensed therapists …” (#BornPerfect : The Facts). California was the first to find the treatment as unethical but set a lead for other states to follow. “Oregon, Illinois, New York, Vermont, Washington, D.C., Cincinnati, Seattle, and three South Florida Cities…” (#BornPerfect : The Facts), also have laid out the similar protections. The US is ready for the next step ,but has not taken it unlike other countries. In order to protect all citizens, health care provider associations would have to, “declare with a united voice that conversion therapy is unethical” (Jim Walker). Conversion therapy organizations such as NARTH (National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality) an organisation that, “endorse[s] and practice[s] conversion therapy in the United States” (#BornPerfect : The Facts) are a big factor in the existence of conversion therapy in the US. Many more efforts have been taken by state officials such as the governor of New jersey to help protect citizens from the, “despicable practice” (Sean P. Fallon). To sum up, conversion therapy is still seen as an ongoing problem in the US and small steps can be taken to completely ban the unethical
