Should individuals be prosecuted for statements made on social media?

Bullying, by definition, is using superior strength or influence to intimidate someone, and typically to force him or her to do what one wants. It is usually caused by things like self consciousness, selfishness, and just being plain jealous. Those are common things that can cause a person to purposefully cause pain in another. Bullies usually see the pain through their victims eyes and use that to replace theirs, and that is so wrong. But bullying does not just stop at physically or socially hurting a person, with our day and age it has spread to the internet. Kids sending hurtful comments to each other and spreading gossip, it is terrible. So with that, should kids …show more content…

They see that a “friend” of theirs has posted a photo making fun of the outfit they wore that day. The person does not think much of it until it happens the next day, then the day after that, until it keeps happening every day. That is not okay, at all. That is a form of bullying, labeled as cyberbullying, that affects kids and adults everyday. Cyberbullying can have a major emotional effect on kids. With that in mind, do you think that minors should be prosecuted for statements they have posted online? Kids can be very cruel. Most of the time, they can get away with the phrase “I didn't know better” to get out things. For example, like enabling a child to kill themselves because they told them that they should. It can cause a huge emotional effect on someone. As a result, …show more content…

The action drives that little girl to go home and hang herself. Do you think an action like that could be stopped by children going to court and realizing how gruesome their acts of cyberbullying can be? Physical effects on people are just as bad as emotional, and most bullying results in a child or teenager cutting or killing themselves, which is such a frightful thing. The teen suicide rate is so high nowadays that it’s just a common thing that children say to each other and talk about. Being cyberbullied can have such a physical toll on someone. That is why cyberbullying bills should be put into place to at least make a dent in dropping the suicide rate or even kids physically cutting themselves. In Source 1, “The Dangers of Cyberbullying” it says, “Cyberbullying can also lead to kids getting physically injured. This bill ensures that someone is held accountable for the behavior that led to someone getting hurt.”This quote basically states that the Megan Meier Cyberbullying Prevention Act helps to eliminate the horrible things children say and do. The physical effect of being cyberbullied is even worse
