The first recognizable social media site, Six Degrees, was created in 1997. It enabled users to upload a profile and make friends with other users (The History and Evolution of Social Media). According to Statista 81% of americans use social networking site’s on a daily basis. A social networking site is an online place that you can watch videos, see ad’s, or have your own account. You can follow people and people can follow you, you share photos with others that you are friends with. According to ProCon.org 52% of students have reported being the victim of cyberbullying with 84.2% naming Facebook as the site through which they have been bullied, followed by Instagram (23.4%), Twitter (21.4%), and Snapchat (13.5%). 17.5% of males and 21.3% of females admit they have bullied someone before, if you know it’s wrong then why do it. If you bully someone you should apologise and admit that you made a bad choice. Middle school children who are victims of cyberbullying are almost twice as likely to attempt suicide. Although social networking sends information faster than the news, 59% of people thought so on Twitter and 31% on Facebook. This would be a good thing if Although the information gets spread faster doesn’t mean it’s good information. 64% of people who use Twitter for news say that they have found something they later discovered wasn't true and 16% of Twitter news users say that they found a tweet they later discovered to be false (ProCon.org). This information shows that just because it shows information before a lot of the news sites doesn't mean the information is more reliable and true.
