It is of the utmost importance for the nurse to take all the competencies into consideration while caring for a patient, but the most important competency for a palliative care nurse is systems thinking. I believe the need for this capability supersedes the others, as according to Matzo & Sherman (2015) it is through this competency that the nurse is able to apply the knowledge they possess and it in turn offer the patient an improved quality of life as they are undergoing palliative care.
